東京は、東の都である。
東の方角とは、陽の昇る処､物の始まりを意味する。
陽は東から昇り、光と暖かさで、五穀を豊穣に導く。
また古来龍は水神として崇められて、その本質は天高く昇るとされている。
龍とともに天高く昇った水が地を潤して東から昇る陽のお陰で豊かな実りを頂く。
昇龍図は、水を治めて陽の恵みに感謝し五穀の豊穣を祈願して描いたものである。

(dedicated to Ohmiya Hachiman-gu Shrine)

Tokyo means the capital of the east. East is the direction of the rising sun, signifying the beginning of all things.
The sun rises from the east, bringing plentitude with its light and warmth.
Since ancient times, the dragon has been worshiped as a water god that ascends into heaven.
Water that rises with the dragon moistens the earth. With sun that rises in the east, it brings rich harvest.
The drawing of the ascending dragon is a prayer for blessings of water and light and bounty of crops. (March 2002)
